Thoughts?

After close to two years I go back to India for nine days and then to Dubai for a close friend's wedding. I want to get my mom something, but I'm not sure what to get her. Any thoughts on what to get her?

Hmm, hard to say without knowing much about your mother. Would she appreciate something American, like good California wine or uniquely american jewelry or Native American stuff?

Or would just regular jewelry be good? Or books, movies? Or a trip to a spa? Or...something for the house like, uhm, you pay off her car or you hire someone to paint the house like shes been meaning to do but hasnt gotten around to yet or maid service for 6 mths to a year? :)

Oh and how much do you want to spend, haha. ;)

She rarely drinks and it fairly simple in her tastes. She's got a maid and she's not interested in jewelry. I was thinking along the lines of something practical but unique. BTW, I like your idea about paying the car loan off, but that's already done. I'll be sure to use it when she buys a new car.

I like your idea of uniquely american or native american stuff. Any suggestions for an on-line retailer?

Alright, I agree, get her something that is Native American....definitely not American since everything we make is a rip-off of another culture anyways. There is a wonderful website that I bought some turquoise jewelry at called alltribes.com I would definitely check that out. What are her hobbies?

Lo,

Thanks for the website; they have some cool stuff. Her hobbies? Fussing over her kids, walking, and meditating.

For Native American things I would say the very best place is one I've patronized myself, and I know its all made by tribal members. http://www.prairieedge.com/ I have the First Rain Shield and the Fringed Lance (don't worry the blade isn't sharp.) They also have star quilts (see the home section) which are very meaningful in the society. Or, another incredible possibility is in the Northern Plains section, Allan and Patty Eckman, their paper art. Really incredible, beautiful stuff.

And I'm not sure of your mom's taste in jewelry, but some of this is really beautiful too (even if it doesnt look it right away.) Uniquely American... http://www.landstroms.com/

Will let you know if I think of anything else. :)
